Presentations.

As a scientist and professor, I give 40-50 presentations a year. They aren't always knock 'em dead TED talks, but I'm confident I hit more than I miss. That alone is pretty impressive given my [former] crippling fear of public speaking (glossophobia). You might have noticed that I started doing science in 1999, yet my first public presentation wasn't until 2009. It took me ten years and two kids to finally get over my fear. I even started a website (Your Next BIG Speech) to help others with similar anxiety. Here are most of the things I've spoken about since that first talk...

  • GIS-based techniques for construction of pre-landslide slope surfaces in Oregon using LIDAR-derived topographic data sets (2009)
  • Analysis of geomorphic and hydrologic characteristics of Mount Jefferson debris flow, Oregon, November 6, 2006 (2009)
  • Engineering Properties and Mitigation Efforts for the Bear Trap Slide, North Fork Road, Oregon (2010)
  • Using Turbidity Monitoring and LiDAR-Derived Imagery to Investigate Sources of Suspended Sediment in the Little North Santiam River Basin, Oregon, Winter 2009-2010 (2010)
